Iron Man Review

“Some prefer the weapon you don’t have to fire; I however prefer the weapon you only have to fire once!” This quote comes from Tony Stark in one of the opening scenes of the new movie Iron Man. If someone ever captured awesomeness and put it in a bottle and then put it in movie form (which that task alone would be difficult), it would be the movie Iron Man. The movie stars the perfect Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, a clever, smart mouthed genius billionaire, who builds a suit to stop the terrorists that enslaved him and then uses it to help the people he put in harm’s way. Terrence Howard, the dude himself Jeff Bridges, and Samuel L. Jackson also star, but the real star of the show in my opinion was Downey, his portrayal of Tony Stark was amazing, and had me laughing and fully believing his character. An interesting note of perspective is that Stark isn’t just this teenager that coincidentally gets bit by a spider, but instead is a man who has earned this responsibility, yet has no superpowers, and has a realistic sense about him. The movie spans about a 2 hour storyline, which was just right for the movie, it didn’t run too short, but it didn’t stay too long (cough Spiderman 3 cough Pirates 3), sorry, I’ve gotta go get that checked out. The movie had a nice blend of action and drama, not spending too much time in any area. Tony Stark’s womanizing, gambling, and alcoholic ways were touched on in the movie, but have been rumored to surface in the later parts of the trilogy. The movie also pulled in some very comedic elements, making me (and the joker behind me who laughed like he had a hernia) laugh out loud at times. You may remember (however I doubt it) a review a while back I did of Jumper where I said the movie was action packed, but didn’t bring any depth that made it deep enough to fully entertain. Iron Man fully delivers, providing a rich storyline worth watching. With all kinds of blockbusters, thrillers, and big box office expectations, Iron Man is definitely a good way to start it off. The movie is just a pure thrill ride from the start with AC DC’s Back in Black to the closing credit’s inevitable inclusion of Black Sabbath’s Iron Man. The movie is just a lot of fun, it’s adrenaline filled and provides a great story, and is a definite must-see for any comic book nerds like myself or other action junkie.
