Spoiler Alert-Spiderman 4 Dies

January 11, 2010 at 9:17 pm (Movies)

Basically you really need to check out this link here, it’s a bunch of news considering what’s now no longer Spiderman 4. In case you don’t want to read all of it, here’s a brief wrap-up.

  • Because Raimi couldn’t promise Sony he could “creatively” come to terms on making the new Spiderman for the Summer of 2011, he’s been dropped from the project, along with all the cast and crew.
  • Now Sony/Columbia are going forth with a reboot (yes, a reboot of a widely successful series) to focus on Peter Parker’s high school years.
  • James Cameron’s idea for his direction/script for the series is being considered.
  • 3-D is Also Being Considered
  • The May 2011 date was scrapped, July of 2011 release date is unlikely, now Summer 2012 date is new focus.
  • John Malkovich, who was originally considered for the Green Goblin in the first movie, and was confirmed for a role in Spiderman 4 as the Vulture, is now still being considered for a part in the new re-boot. Interest in Anne Hathaway (potentially as the Vulturess, no that’s NOT a typo) is still in the minds of many at Sony/Columbia.
  • Star Trek 2 is also coming out that Summer, so there’s something to see haha.

The Vulture for a Reboot?

The Vulturess? *snickers*

Hopefully not the new Peter Parker

Also Hopefully Not the New Peter Parker

I'm Praying THIS is the New Uncle Ben haha...

That sucks! I love the spider-man series, it does not need a re-boot!

I was pleased/dis-pleased with this announcement.

If you look at it in a certain way, Sony’s making a really good decision. The series is almost too profitable to put on freeze. It’s the highest grossing SERIES of comic films out there (pretty sure all three did higher than TDK + Batman Begins, could be wrong though). In one respect it’s a stupid move to not refresh the series with a new perspective in such short time, but then again it’s almost disrespectful to Sam Raimi’s artistic integrity.

But in another view, Sam Raimi was never going to make this movie. He wasn’t going to make the 2011 release window and chances are he wouldn’t have made the 2012 one. Was he too shaken up by Spiderman 3’s critical lauping that he was putting too much effort into trying to make this one a critical success? Maybe, but Sony made a quick decision putting the whole crew out before he blew more time, even though his premise was finally starting to come together/sound interesting.

I loved his first two movies, I loved what he did to that universe and what he created with Tobey Macquire. However there were just a lot of missteps when it came to his development on this new project. I would have loved to see a fourth film and see it actually made, but I can’t help but be excited for what a new director and lead actor can bring to that. Whether or not that can overcome Raimi’s expert vision of the first two movies is yet to be seen.

Also, I really think “reboot” is a term that’s being more and more mis-used. This new version shouldn’t be considered a “reboot” as the first series wasn’t at all a mis-step, however, much like the Batman series, it’s to be a re-imagining. The Incredible Hulk was a reboot, this, not so much.

i personally hate and like the reboot idea. I hate that Tobey isnt going to be spiderman anymore because he is the one and only peter parker. Also the franchise was great it didnt need to start over, i dont wanna see peter parker back in high school i hate that idea. Its better to me if he’s grown up on his own. Dont put him back in high school just pick up where it left off. I also like the idea of a reboot because kirsten dunst isnt playing MJ anymore; she was not right for the part. I hope this time they get someone that actually has the look for it, perhaps Danneel Harris from One Tree Hill. Another thing is that they can give venom another try but this time him as the one and only villain.

That’s true, i kinda have the same feelings. I had thought about the concept if they continued the world from where they left off in that sort of timeline but not in the same continuation of the third, b/c then it kinda becomes cheesy. I’d love to see someone like Anne Hathaway or Kristen Bell play Mary Jane or maybe Joseph Gordon Levitt as Peter. I’m open to seeing new people play the parts but until they put out something to top Spiderman 2 I’m entirely sold.

never would have expected spiderman to get rebooted this early, it doesnt need one to be honest. I still hate the high school BS. Still it doesnt matter people are still going to go see the next movie and its gonna wrack in some cash. I hope at least the next film has a villain that we havent seen yet except for giving venom another shot, thats about it.

Yeah, I am definitely going to see it…I just don’t think it is necessary.
